ST STEPHEN'S IS A STEWARDSHIP CHURCH

What is Christian Stewardship?

"Steward" is not such a common word these days but traditionally it has meant someone whose job is to look after someone else's property, like a farm or estate or some money. The Steward will, at some time, have to account to the owner for how that property has been cared for.

As Christians, we believe that we are entrusted with all the things God has given us; the world with its natural resources, our lives and time to live them, our abilities, however skilled or modest they may be, and our resources of homes, possessions and money. At some stage, we shall have to account to God for how well we have looked after them.

This whole view of our lives and their place in the world is the broadest view. But because we need a practical focus, we are encouraged to concentrate on three aspects which affect us all most closely – Time, Talents and Money.

How are you spending your time?

Out of the 24 hours we each have available, what time do you spend on your family and friends, at work, at leisure….and doing God's work? Our church needs people's time to help with a wide variety of jobs and activities – some of which you might actually enjoy!

How are you using your talents?

Are you using and developing your potential? Do you have skills or talents, however modest, that could benefit others? Could you be more useful?

How are you using your money?

What do you spend on your home, car, and holidays? Do you use your money to help other people? Do you support the expenses of God's work through our churches and in other ways, in a planned and regular way?

If you are interested in following these questions up, or would like some more information, see one of the Stewardship team in church.
