Thank you for your interest in the post of Children and Families Minister at St. Martin’s Epsom.
I hope that the job description, person specification and Parish profile will give you a good idea of who we are, and our vision for this developing ministry and mission.
I have been Vicar of St. Martin’s for two years now, and have found it to be a deeply committed Church, serious about worship and discipleship and ready to be led into growth. Last summer, I put together a ‘blue sky’ group, to pray together and discern how God is calling us into growth, and we had a clear vision for developing our many links with children and families.
Thanks to the generous legacy of a former Lay Minister, we can progress that vision through employing a new member of our Ministry Team, who will lead our Ministry and Mission amongst Children and Families. You will be joining a team of myself, a retired (but very active) Priest, three Lay Ministers, three Pastoral Assistants and two occasional preachers.
Our Church has many willing volunteer supporters and workers who, together with our paid office staff, support the Ministry Team, and will be committed to supporting our new colleague in their ministry. Your role will be key in nurturing our contacts with local schools, the Sure Start Centre, uniformed organisations, baptism families and Church hall based toddler group, as well as developing new ones (for instance, with the drama and dance groups that use our premises). Our prayer is that as we build those bridges, we will see people grow in faith and discipleship.
Your ministry will also be to the existing congregation, in helping us develop our worship, discipleship and fellowship to be more appropriate to the culture and lifestyle of the families of our Parish.
You will have great opportunities for fellowship with others in the same ministry, as well as training and self-development, through our Guildford Diocesan Children and Families Adviser, as well as local links with neighbouring Churches of various denominations.
I hope this is an attractive proposition! By God’s grace, you could join our team, enjoy fellowship and support within St Martin’s and the wider Church, and make a real difference by leading our vision for ministry and mission amongst Children and families.
Please be assured of my prayers for you as you explore your ministry and calling, and please pray for as we seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in making this appointment.
