Meets: 2nd Tuesday of each month at 11 am and on the 4th Thursday at 8 pm in St Martin's
The aim of the Group is to teach and to practise 'listening prayer'. The method used is that set out by the Fellowship of Contemplative Prayer. The meetings are almost always in the Church itself. Anyone who would like an hour or so of led meditation or contemplation and silence based on one of the sayings of God from the Old Testament or one of Jesus in the New Testament is very welcome.
September dates: Tuesday, 12th September, at 11 am and
Thursday, 28th September, at 8 pm
The saying used will be: 'My people ... I am understanding.' Proverbs 8.14. God is the source of everything we have. What many of us need at this time is 'wisdom'. This will be our starting point this month
October dates: Tuesday 10th Octobver at 11 am and
Thursday 26th October at 8 pm
We will be going right back to the beginning of things as we listen to God reminding us 'It is 1 who made the earth and created mankind upon it. My own hands stretched out the heavens ... I will raise up Cyrus to rebuild my city and set my exiles free...'
November dates: Tuesday, 14th November at 11 am and
Thursday 23rd November at 8 pm.
This month we plunge into the heart of the Apocrypha for a saying of great depth and meaning: 2 Esdras 14.25: 'I will light in your heart the lamp of understanding'. Ezra (the name 'Esdras' is the Greek form of it) was commanded by God to go on retreat from his everyday life. He returns and is able to share the understanding he has found. That same understanding is what we need if we are to work as the disciples of Christ.
There will be a Quiet Day in preparation for Advent on Monday, November 27th, 2017.
It will be held at the new Cantre at St Giles Ashtead.
